Custom Design FAQ

BOOKS ARE CLOSED

I estimate books will be reopening for new clients

around October 1st!

  • How do I pay for my tattoo? Tips? Trades?
How to pay I accept/prefer cash or Venmo. I do take credit cards but there will be a 3.5% processing fee added to your total. Your nonrefundable deposit will be used toward the final cost of your tattoo. Tips Tips are very much appreciated but not required. Trades If you are curious about a trade please reach out to me, leahearltattoo@gmail.com.
  • Group Tattoos
If you have a group of 4 or more looking to get matching or "matching-ish" small-to-medium-sized tattoos, I’d love to host you! My studio provides a cozy and welcoming atmosphere, making your group tattoo session a fun and memorable experience. Pricing: Varies based on design—reach out to discuss details. My minimum pricing is $200 per person. Availability: An appointment will typically be booked a couple of months in advance to accommodate everyone. Group sessions can be scheduled on Saturdays or Sundays. Deposit: A $100 non refundable deposit per person is required to secure your date and time. To book your group tattoo day, email leahearltattoo@gmail.com.
  • Touch Ups
Free touch ups? I offer free touch ups within 1 year of your original appointment. Please send me a picture of your tattoo to my email leahearltattoo@gmail.com so I can determine how much time we will need for your touch up. If you need a touch up after 1 year of your original appointment there will be a small fee. For smaller touch ups the fee is generally $50. When is a touch up not free? If there are visible signs of poor or negligent aftercare, picking at the healing design, or if the design placement is in an area that is prone to fading (finger, side of your foot, or palm) then I do not offer free touch ups. I will gladly do the touch up but the cost for a touch up will be a case by case basis.
  • How to Prepare
    1. Moisturize. Make sure to moisturize the area for a few days prior to your appointment. Please don’t moisturize the area on the day of your appointment. 2. Exfoliate. Please lightly exfoliate the area to make sure your skin is nice and soft. 3. Stay Hydrated. Make sure you are well hydrated. Please do not drink excessive amounts of alcohol the night or two before your appointment. 4. Sleep well. 5. Eat. Make sure to have a filling and nutritious meal before your appointment. 6. SHOWER! Please please please shower, brush teeth, wear deodorant, and wear clean clothes. Refrain from wearing heavy perfume or cologne as this can give me a headache after a while. If your tattoo will be anywhere on your lower leg then please be mindful of the socks and shoes you wear. 7. Wear Appropriate Clothes. Wearing comfortable clothing will make your experience much more enjoyable. Please wear layers so that you can adjust your clothes to make sure you are the most comfortable. Some examples of clothing for placement: Back Piece: wear comfy pants and bring a flannel to wear backwards (this will help keep you warm while also providing you with more privacy. Bring pasties if you would like extra nipple coverage. Arm: tank top, or short sleeve shirt Leg: shorts, loose fitting pants, or a dress Stomach or chest: bring pasties or wear a loose fitting shirt that we can tape up or tuck to expose the placement area *If you are unsure about what to wear please just ask me!
  • What to Expect During the Appointment
Appointment Time! 1. Guests. I prefer no guests. If you feel that you need/want to bring someone along please keep it to only 1 guest. 2. Arriving. Please give yourself 5-10 minutes to find parking. Please arrive right at your appointment time. No need to be early. 3. Release Form. I will need you to fill out a release form when you get to the studio. Please remember your valid ID! I cannot accept voided or expired IDs. This is MN State Law. 4. Comfort. Please bring items that make you feel comfortable! Snacks, water, headphones, blanket, or even pictures of your pets! I usually have calm/ relaxing music playing in the background. 5. We go at your pace. If you need a break please do not hesitate to ask! I like to take a break about every hour for myself but we can take breaks as often as you need. 6. Talking. Please feel free to talk as little or as much as you would like. Please let me know if you would like a silent appointment (within reason). I tend to be focused and quiet when tattooing so please bring things to entertain yourself! :) If you have any other questions please feel free to reach out to me and I can clarify anything you may need to know!
  • Parking
Foxglove Tattoo Studio doesn’t have a private parking lot, so I recommend giving yourself a little extra time to find a spot. In Lowertown, it usually takes about 5–15 minutes to park and pay, especially during the busy seasons (April through September and around the holidays). I’ll send the exact studio address once your appointment is booked. I’m always happy to share tips but checking parking options ahead of time can help make your arrival smooth and stress-free. #1 Saint Paul Farmers' Market - Lot #193 Parking should be about $5-$8 when the CHS does not have a game. The website is here. #2 Street Parking : ZONE 651 I would recommend downloading the St Paul Parking app! Most spots are 2 hour limit but you can easily add more time through the app! #3 Union Depot Parking Daily Parking: Union Depot Parking Lot C, 390 E Kellogg Blvd, St Paul, MN 55101 There is an incredible amount of parking available in the Lowertown area. Please be aware that the CHS field and the St Paul Farmers market are very close by and can become very busy during event days/nights during the summer and holiday months.
  • Hours and Availability?
Hours: Tuesday - Friday 12pm-7pm New Client Custom Requests: My books are closed. I estimate books will be reopening for new clients around October 1st! Existing Client Custom Request: If you are an existing client please reach out with your idea. I am accepting returning client work outside of my open books window. Consults: I usually have 1-2 saturdays a month dedicated to consults. During the summer months consults are much more limited. Upcoming flash sales: I am estimating a large flash sale in September! Please reach out to me via email at leahearltattoo@gmail.com if you have any questions. I would be happy to clarify any aspect of my booking process.
  • Custom Design - Mock Ups or Design Preview
Please note that I don’t send out designs or drafts before appointments. This policy helps protect both my time and the integrity of my work. My creative process can be hard to explain over messages, especially for new clients, so I prefer to go over everything in person. For larger custom projects, I offer in-person consultations where we’ll collaborate on a rough draft of your idea. I understand that not seeing the design beforehand can feel a little nerve-wracking, but I promise we’ll have plenty of time during your appointment to review and make any needed adjustments together.
  • Rescheduling, Cancellations, or Late?
If you need to reschedule or cancel your appointment contact me directly via email (leahearltattoo@gmail.com). 72 hours +: If you need to reschedule please give me at least 72 hours notice. I allow 1 reschedule. If you need to reschedule more than 1 time I may require an additional $100 deposit. 24 hours or less: Rescheduling within 24 hours of your appointment will result in your original $100 deposit to be forfeited. A new $100 deposit will be required to book a new date. This policy has no exceptions. Same day cancellations for consultations: Consultations are our first chance to connect and see if we’re a good fit, so I kindly ask that you be mindful of your appointment time. I understand that things can come up unexpectedly, but if you need to cancel or reschedule on the same day, I likely won’t offer a new consultation slot. If that happens, you’re always welcome to submit your idea again when my books reopen. No call no shows will cause you to forfeit your deposit. Late? If you are going to be late let me know as soon as you can. If you are more than 15 minutes late you risk losing your appointment time and deposit. Deposits are not refundable under any circumstance. I reserve the right to deny service to anyone for not respecting my time and boundaries.
  • Hourly Rate, Pricing, and Deposit
Hourly Rate My rate is $200 an hour (unless otherwise stated or agreed upon) Pricing Smaller custom pieces - I’ll provide a flat-rate price estimate for the entire design. Larger custom pieces - I charge my $200 hourly rate. Flash - Flash designs are priced individually and are not subject to my hourly rate unless specifically stated. Flash Discount - Receive $25 off each flash piece when you get more than one during the same appointment. For example: 2 flash designs = $50 off; 3 flash designs = $75 off. Minimum $200 Minimum will be $225 after August 1st 2025. Deposit Deposits are not refundable or transferable under any circumstance. $100 nonrefundable deposit for most projects. $200 nonrefundable deposit for larger custom work. No reschedules allowed. Giveaways are not transferable. Please reach out via my email leahearltattoo@gmail.com if you have an questions.
  • When should you arrive for your appointment and why you don't need to be early
I kindly ask that you arrive at Foxglove Tattoo no more than 5 minutes before your scheduled appointment time, the studio is small and does not have a waiting area for you to hang out in if you are early. Please note that the restrooms in the Northwestern Building are locked. When you arrive, at your scheduled appointment time, I’ll be happy to provide you with the restroom key and show you where it is. I often have back-to-back appointments, and arriving too early can shorten the brief breaks I rely on to rest, recharge, and prepare for the next session. It’s important to me to be at my best for every client, including you. I understand that the anticipation for your appointment may cause you to arrive early, but if that happens, please wait in your car or grab a coffee at Lost Fox until your scheduled time. Late? If you are going to be late let me know as soon as you can. If you are late you risk losing your deposit. I may not have time to tattoo you. If you are more than 15 minutes late you risk losing your appointment time and deposit.
  • Pain Management and Tattoo Anxiety
Tattoo Anxiety: I’ve had the pleasure of tattooing many first-time clients, and I understand how nerve-wracking the experience can be. I’m here to help make your tattoo journey as comfortable and enjoyable as possible! It should feel exciting, not daunting. If you feel that having a support person would help with any anxiety, you are welcome to bring one guest. If this is your first tattoo, please let me know—I’ll take the time to walk you through the entire process, ensuring you feel informed and at ease every step of the way. Remember that you’re strong and absolutely capable of getting this tattoo! For more information on how to prepare for your appointment, please refer to my FAQ. This will help ensure everything goes as smoothly as possible. Coping Mechanisms for Pain Management: If you are anxious about the pain level for your next tattoo make sure you bring some comforts from home. These things can include: your favorite pillow, candy, water bottle, headphones, music, or have a movie queued up! Just remember to breathe and try to distract yourself. Numbing Creams: Please consult with me before applying numbing cream.
  • Am I a returning client?
I book returning custom clients on an ongoing basis. Returning clients are always my priority, and I make sure to schedule their projects before opening up to new custom work. If you’ve received a custom design from me within the last two years, you’re considered a returning custom client. If it’s been longer than that or if we’ve only worked together on a flash piece you’ll need to wait until my custom books reopen. If you have any questions about the custom process, please don’t hesitate to reach out via email at leahearltattoo@gmail.com. I’m always happy to answer any questions you may have.
